And the story behind it all
After spending twenty years visiting and living in various countries, I finally settled in France and began writing about it on my blog, A Lady in France.
At first I wrote about life and construction in my small house just outside of Paris. I wrote about my three young children, the French dishes I was cooking, the garden I was trying to tame. And then, bits and pieces of my past started appearing on the blog – living and traveling around Asia, my life as a single woman in Manhattan, the humanitarian work my husband and I were involved in while living in Somaliland, Kenya and Djibouti.
Going beyond blogging into writing a memoir was a direct result of suffering a second-term miscarriage. Suddenly there was a reason to write an entire book. A theme started to emerge, and it was the threads of grief, joy, and faith that were woven tightly into my life throughout the years. The first draft was finished the same month my baby would have been due.
Once I had published that book, the desire to continue writing longer works bit. A fan of the Regency period, I wrote a fictional romance, set in modern times, but with a soupçon of the Regency style. A Noble Affair (initially titled, The Viscount of Maisons-Laffitte) appeared on my blog in a series of one chapter per week in an effort to put any doubts to rest (my own) that I could complete such a project. With that accomplished, I began the first in a series of novels properly set in the Regency period – 1812, to be exact. A Regrettable Proposal was published by Cedar Fort on March 12, 2019, and its sequel, A Faithful Proposal came out a year later. Since traditionally-published books take awhile, I squeezed out a new contemporary romance, A Sweetheart in Paris, and have two additional Regencies I plan to self-publish this year.
